UNDERSTAING THE ESTATE:
COMO Shambhala Estate, which is part of the COMO Group, is a retreat for change, a new-style residential health centre where guests are immersed in a positive, holistic, healing experience. A new and refreshing twist to the typical luxury honeymoon experience. Every aspect of the Estate answers to this greater purpose – the design, facilities, staff, treatments, cuisine, accommodation, community, and the way guests enjoy Bali with various physical and cultural activities. The sensibility is nurturing, professional and private, staff providing inspiration and support at every stage. The Estate is somewhere people come to work through issues, to discover theirpersonal potential and face new challenges.
UNDERSTANDING COMO SHAMBHALA:
COMO Shambhala is a health concept that has been developed in line with Shambhala’s meaning (Sanskrit for ‘peace’) manifested as centres of wellbeing at all COMO Hotels and Resorts. These include COMO’s city hotels spas, known as COMO Shambhala Urban Escapes, as well as COMO Shambhala Retreats at the company’s private islands and Uma resorts. It is a consultative rather than prescriptive approach which allows consultants to respond to guests on a one-by-one, day-by-day basis. Treatments range from Yoga to shiatsu to Ayurvedic cleansing programmes. They distil the best of ancient Asian traditions and, where appropriate, older techniques are combined with Western advances. Bodywork is also an essential element of the COMO Shambhala experience. At all properties, Yoga facilities are available. Guests can partake in week-long programs led by the world’s best teachers making this a unique location for Luxury Destination Weddings. In addition, COMO Shambhala maintains on-going relationships with key health professionals, and in 2006, created a Board of Advisors made up of experts in holistic health to help direct the company’s evolution; members include Dr Robert Thurman, Rodney Yee and Donna Karan. COMO Shambhala cuisine, available at select properties, focuses on energising and organic foodstuffs. An emphasis on raw ingredients is combined with pan-Asian influences, with menusoverseen by the company’s Executive Chef, Amanda Gale. COMO Shambhala also produces a range of skin and bodycare products, COMO Shambhala At Home, made from all-natural ingredients. COMO Shambhala Active Living is the company’s resort and activewear line, launched in 2007.

Kudus House serves breakfast and dinner and showcases the diverse influences, flavors and spices of Indonesia’s regions. It is a more intimate space, occupying a 150-year old former Javanese residence. At night, it offers a quiet, gourmet experience.
A contemporary, Ikebuchi-designed space seating 30, is an all-day dining restaurant. In the spa area and beside the pool, guests can also partake of a light snack menu, including healthy sate, sorbets, and granites served in bamboo steamers, wooden vessels and banana-leaf wraps.
YOGA, PILATES & MARTIAL ARTS
Yoga trains the body, soothes the mind and opens up a person’s spiritual awareness beyond perceived limitations.
We encourage all guests to try Yoga at least once. We also offer one-on-one sessions. Meditation and pranayama (a breathing technique) also feature.
The Estate’s resident teacher practices Vinyasa, or flow-based Yoga. Postures are linked in carefully balanced sequences, with breath leading the way. Vinyasa incorporates the important fundamentals of alignment from Iyengar Yoga, coupled with a flowing movement-to-breath style (Ashtanga).
Complimentary classes are provided daily, taking place in one of two pavilions forming part of Ojas. They are constructed from natural materials with open sides to incorporate light and air.
All guests are provided with an in-room Yoga mat.
The Pilates Method of body conditioning helps create stronger linear muscles, improve posture, flexibility, muscle control and endurance.
It can also help strengthen the body after injury or childbirth, and is a great reliever of back pain. Osteopaths and physiotherapists are now recommending Pilates as one of the safest forms of exercise available.
The Estate offers a state-of-the-art Pilates Studio equipped with a Reformer Machine and Wunda Chair. Complimentary classes are available most days, and we have a resident teacher.
For the Pilates beginner, we offer mat work classes that focus on stabilising the placement of the spine, pelvis, shoulder girdle and neck. Students learn the correct method lying down before transferring that knowledge to standing.
Other mat work classes include the Small Ball Class for more intermediate practitioners (not suitable for those with chronic back pain), which challenges the abdominals and lengthens muscles. The Small Ball Rolling Class helps create freedom in the joints. Other more advanced mat work sessions include a Ring Class to target specific muscle groups.
Complimentary classes are offered on the daily Activities Schedule.
Martial Arts teach awareness of one’s own balance and what affects it, awareness of the same in others, while also providing principles in self-defense.
Chi Kung, a form of ‘internal’ or ‘soft’ martial arts, consists primarily of meditation, relaxation, physical movement, mind-body integration and breathing exercises. It is easily accessible to beginners. Complimentary classes are provided several times a week as part of the Activities Schedule.
CLIMBING, BIKING, TREKS, & FITNESS TRAINING
What makes Como Shambhala Estate perfect for Luxury Destination Weddings, are the fun activities available for your guests.
For a challenging experience that’s also open to beginners, The Estate has built a climbing wall located behind Bayugita Residence. To ensure correct usage of all equipment, guests are asked to book time at the climbing wall so as to work on their technique in safety. The results are intensely rewarding, utilizing multiple muscle groups.
We believe biking can become a passion that is far more compelling than conventional approaches to weight loss. Biking is something you can do back home, to maintain a consistent level of fitness.
Guests can choose from gentle cruises along easy back roads to a bash down muddy tracks and rough village byways. For the more culturally inclined, there are easy, traffic-free tracks through pretty villages, and quiet tarmac roads popular with beginners.
Personal Fitness Training
Working out with a personal instructor one-to-one allows you to learn to be efficient, productive and safe in your exercise sessions. The Estate’s hinterland can be seen as one vast outdoor gym but on the property we also have a jungle gym, indoor gym, climbing wall and trails at our disposal.
Walking, Biking & Trekking trips
For those who wish to explore Bali’s lush, nature-rich countryside while getting some exercise we have devised a range of guided walking, biking and trekking routes to suit all interests and abilities.
